World Leadership Conference 2011: Call for Volunteers

with 23 comments

Leadership is a quality necessary for social influence and in enlisting the aid and support of others to accomplish tasks. In the build-up towards Rio+20, youth from the Asia-Pacific region are encouraged to assume a leadership role and learn to be confident in a social setting much like at international conferences. In preparation towards the Rio+20 Earth Summit 2012, participants will learn important milestones achieved since the Stockholm Earth Summit in 1972 which have helped change the way people see climate change and the environment.

The World Leadership Conference 2011 is a unique 5-day preparatory conference which aims to re-kindle the “spirit of Rio” by enabling youths of today with the skills and knowledge required to be effective leaders in creating change, especially towards climate change and sustainable development. Youth from the Asia-Pacific are particularly encouraged to engage in lively debate and think critically about the issues that are facing the region today. It is also a great occasion to meet like-minded peers from around Asia-Pacific and to establish lasting friendships and associations with students and volunteers from environmental organizations in the region.

The World Leadership Conference 2011 reflects the highest ideals of ECO Singapore in bringing together motivated and proactive youth from the Asia-Pacific to focus on pertinent issues surrounding climate change and to develop leadership qualities which would best prepare participants for Rio+20. It is set to be held in Singapore from the 5th to the 9th of June 2011 in conjunction with ECO Singapore’s celebration of World Environment Day.

We are calling out for volunteers to be part of the Youth Organising Committee.

An Invitation from Nancy

In our commodified society, where wealth is usually equated with money and where financial gain is the most potent behavioral motivator for most, we sometimes overlook the true meaning of life, our cultural inheritance, and what is genuinely fulfilling.  With this in mind, we are pleased to invite you to write a short essay for the upcoming Fall | Winter 2010 Kosmos Journal:

Tell us about an experience in your life that opened your heart to what you now value the most, something that defies a price tag. Beyond money, what makes life worthwhile?

Please limit your essay to no more than 450 words. We will select  several essays to be published in our journal along with some of the most acclaimed thought leaders and photojournalists of our times.  The essays will also be presented on our website.

Be inspired and inspire others. It’s another way to get involved and create the world you want to see!

Please send to info@kosmosjournal.org before September 1, 2010.

Warm wishes,
Nancy
