TEAM LEADER- LOY SYE YUET
Aspiring Environmental Policy and Economics Student

Area of Interest: Sustainable urban management and practices, Environmental education for youths

“I look forward to learning from experts on sustainability issues and understand the international policy and review mechanisms better. The experience in 2008 of meeting inspiring and enthusiastic youths from around the world was immense. The opportunity to work with them again and our team from Singapore is a great motivation to be back at the UNCSD this year.”

SHIRLYNN SHAM
Avid Geography student, who also has a proclivity towards current affairs and global politics

Area of Interest: Global sustainable development issues, particularly relating to the pertinent needs of less developed countries, and the world’s responsibility to help LDCs, as well as itself, achieve sustainable development for current and future generations

“I have always had a great interest in the workings of the UN, and also have a (hitherto somewhat dormant, quasi-embarrassed) ambition to work in the UN someday.
I hope to meet globally-minded, mature, environmentally and politically sensitive youths from around the world, who will provide fresh perspective on issues pertaining to sustainable development in their respective countries. On a more trite level, I hope that the UNCSD delegation, through the power of affecting words, impressive speeches and political savvy, goes some way in saving the world. “

THEA TAN
A-level science student with an interest in music and books

Area of interest: Environmental sustainability and Human development

“Motivated by my interest in environmental and international affairs, I participated in this programme largely with an eye towards gaining perspective on the management of global affairs and extending my body of knowledge with regards to sustainable development and world issues. Ultimately I also hope to interact with and draw inspiration from a community of involved youths from all over the world.”

SU WEI XIN
Diploma graduate from Republic Polytechnic in Biomedical Science and is currently serving his Alma Mater as a Technology Development Assistant while waiting for National Service

Area of Interest: Wei Xin’s interests lies in the harmonic integration and innovation of the world around him as well as to engage everyone in it. He sees the world with wide-eyed wonder at all the miracles that made the world as it is. Also, he is a renaissance man, with interests in both the arts and the sciences, the past and the future.

“I joined the UNCSD to understand Sustainable Development at a policy level as well to engage and contribute in all manners of effort on a global platform; exploring partnerships and gaining experience for future endeavors. I hope that through this experience at UNCSD-17, I would be in a better position to align the interests and efforts between the 3Ps towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals in a sustainable fashion; thereby fulfilling my innate desire to contribute to humanity.”

ANDREA LOW

Social Science undergraduate majoring in Psychology and Political Science

Area of Interest: Global politics, education for youth and sustainable tourism.

“I felt that this would be a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience the workings of a United Nations Conference. We read about international meetings and forums so often in the newspapers, and I have always wondered what it would be like to be part of one. The topic of sustainable development is a relevant issue to our generation and applies to every youth around the globe. I hope to be able to represent the Asian viewpoint at the conference and also gain new perspectives from fellow participants at the conference. “
